GMX100 is a rainfall sensor in the MaxiMet series compact weather stations, featuring an optical rainfall sensor composed of an optical infrared beam sensor. The infrared beam bounces off the internal optical surface between the transmitter and receiver. The intensity of different light beams varies according to the level of raindrops, and then internal digital signal processing is performed to measure rainfall. Calculate the total amount and intensity of rainfall based on the size and quantity of raindrops. Therefore, sensors can accurately provide the start and stop times of rainfall, as well as the total amount and intensity of rainfall. The sensor also includes an integrated heater to ensure that the sensor remains non condensing and non condensing.
GMX100 has more advantages than traditional tipping bucket rain sensors. The tipping bucket counting may not be accurate because the rain may stop before the bucket pours. At the beginning of the next rainy season, it may take one to two drops of water to trigger the tipping bucket. The tipping bucket may underestimate rainfall, for example, all rainfall is not recorded, especially under snow, rainstorm or strong wind conditions. Finally, the tipping bucket rain bucket may be affected by vibration, while the GMX100 has no moving parts and is not affected by any movement. In offshore applications, tipping bucket rain gauges may not be securely installed or may cause false rain measurements due to movement.
The GMX100 rainfall sensor is designed to be suitable for any installation method, including applications that may not be suitable for traditional tipping bucket rain bucket installations. For example, in marine applications, the movement of carriers at sea may provide false rainfall data, or in other extreme environments, tipping bucket rain buckets cannot accurately calculate rainfall. This sensor can be easily integrated into remote weather stations, weather buoys, or fixed stations, and can be used as an independent solar radiation sensor or as part of a large environmental monitoring system.
